A Penny in the Fountain

I've talked before about what my biggest underwater influences were as I was growing up - the underwater scenes from TV shows and movies that I watched as a kid that made me want to draw more of my very own. One of the many shows that I owe a debt of bubbly gratitude to is "Inspector Gadget". First of all, Penny is a cool character all on her own, the confident kid genius who sneaks around behind the action and saves the day without anyone even knowing. But she also got into her fair share of dangerous underwater escapades throughout the series, and she never let it faze her - swept down a raging river by water gremlins? Forced to escape murderous frogmen with only half a scuba tank's worth of air? Spit out into the bottom of the ocean by a service elevator, forced to swim for the surface on only one breath? Not a problem for Penny.

So I got inspired to do a page of sketches depicting everyone's favorite plucky computer whiz on another submerged adventure. I ended up spacing them kinda closer together than I would've liked, but I at least tried to capture the same sense of action and dire straits that the show always had.
