Yep, it finally happened. And frankly, I wasn't the least bit surprised. On January 1, 2010, my Dell Dimension 2400 contracted its fourth virus in seven months, locked up all its functions, and basically ate itself. Hell of a way to kick off the new decade, huh?

So now I have a large black paperweight sitting underneath my desk. And though I was able to save some of my more important documents (i.e. everything relating to "Forever 16"), let's take a moment of silence now to remember all the poor files that lost their lives in the Great PC Crash of 2010.

- All my original artwork
- All of :iconking-cheetah:'s artwork that I had saved before DeviantArt deleted it
- All my music, including my rare collection of Japanese Pokémon songs
- All my saved AIM conversations
- My Game Boy emulator and my roms of Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, and Crystal
- My entire collection of underwater photos and videos (including rare clips from Rusty Pietrzak that are no longer available anywhere)
- The complete first season of "Kim Possible"

I bring this sad news to you, once again, courtesy of the community college computer lab. But as one door closes, so does another open - for it won't be long before the aforementioned :iconking-cheetah: delivers on his promise to send me a brandy-new custom-built Mac computer, stuffed to the gills with big gobs of neat stuff and about a zillion times more heavily guarded from viruses than my old computer!

Farewell, you poor Dell Dimension 2400. I'll always remember the good times...and that's pretty pathetic 'cause it means I've got more memory than you ever did.

EDIT: Damn, this is worse than I thought. Those important "Forever 16" documents I saved aren't formatted properly (fricking WordPerfect, always screws everything up). So yeah, I'm definitely going to have to hold on to my Dell tower and try to get my stuff out of there. And after I do, I never want to see the damn thing again. PCs have brought me nothing but misery; Macs have brought me nothing but prosperity. I don't know why I didn't make this switch sooner.

Sorry to hear about your dead computer. It sucks, I know. I have 3.

It sucks even more to lose all of your files.

I hope you're able to rise back up into power soon.

I hope your data problems get solved.
And whoever's fault it is, that the twonk gets drowned in a lake of tears to an amusing soundtrack.

You could just save the HDD and connect to it to pull the files from it, provided that the drive isn't beyond salvage. Hopefully you can resurrect it long enough to do the job.

Good thing I kept my Visual Boy Advance Emulator and translated ROM of Mother 3 on an SD Card. Same goes for EarthBound and the ZSNES! And I never really bothered to download any episodes, since they seem to be scattered throughout Youtube. Of course, that was before the old computer died on us. Thank the technology that we were able to upgrade to an HP Pavilion with Windows Vista, when we did.

hmm... this is really why POSIX-compliant systems (Linux/UNIX/OS X, but that technically goes under UNIX as well) have a major leg up in terms of security and design... no viruses can ever really affect such a system because the design pretty much keeps you safe by giving you a limited account by default, and to make any major changes to the system, you need to enter a password... I'll stop here before I get too carried away...
