Well, my artist's block has passed! Finishing up my final Forever 16 commission got my story writing gears a-turning again, and I'm now tearing through the long, long archive of story outlines I've conceived for the strip. Remember, I've come up with 20 years' worth of stories for Joel, Michelle, Aaron, Steve, Jocelyn, and the gang, so I don't think I'm going to run out of material any time soon. Already I've got three stories in the works:
- June 10, 1996. A two-weeker in which Westworld shoots a music video...underwater in Michelle's pool. I've drawn concept art for this story numerous times before and I figured it was high time I actually drew the story itself.
- October 31, 1994. A one-week series of tangentially-related vignettes parodying Pulp Fiction, one of my favorite '90s movies.
- May 2, 2005. After seeing House of Wax (remember that movie? Yeah, me neither), Lindsay is in awe of Paris Hilton's rise to superstardom and decides to replicate her path to success...and that means starting with a sex tape.
I'm just hopping all over the calendar, really, drawing whichever stories I'm in the mood for. You know, I'm still re-reading my Harry Potter books - I may do the August 23, 1999 story where Michelle becomes a super-fan of the book series, or maybe the July 30, 2007 story where she tries to read Deathly Hallows without anyone spoiling the ending for her.
As for sailex's idea, while it's possible to draw strips for Barbozatoons, it's be difficult to get the right feel for it since Forever 16 flows well with it's talking and semi-realism, while the former is far more focused on animation and cartoony movements. Hard to put in a comic strip...
Huh? *wink, nudge, wink*
But then again, there are better more capable animators out there.
