Here's a commission for :iconthe-purple-airedale: that comes with a bit of a backstory; it's an illustration for a Simpsons fanfiction she's writing. The fic takes place shortly after the events of The Simpsons Movie - during the efforts to rebuild Springfield after its three-month quarantine from the rest of the unpolluted world, Lisa gets separated from the other members of the Simpson family. She eventually meets up with Father Sean, previously seen in GABF09 "The Father, The Son, and the Holy Guest Star", and the two of them develop a friendship in spite of their differing religious views. I was asked to depict a typically sweet scene between the two characters, and even with the remnants of the EPA-wrought destruction around them, I think I pulled it off.

It looked like a latter-day Krystallnacht.

A Calvinist has a lot of religious contradictions. They believe in God NOT loving all mankind, that God only pre-chose a literal handful to be saved, that we had no say in our fate (eternal bliss or eternal torture!), that nobody is going to be added to this small list of Elect and nothing we do will change our pre-chosen destinies.

And the same man (Rev. John Brown,18th cent. preacher) also bemoaned so much of mankind being heathen, moslem, Catholic or nominal Protestant (unsaved) even tho his 3-headed God put man that way -as if our unsaved, sinful and depraved state is OUR fault entirely !

HO LORDY (no pun intended), I'd needed some time to think abotu what I was going to say!

I love it. I love how you interpreted the scene without making it seem out-of-character; since both of them are fairly reserved. That episode is one of my favourites because it found a way to make fun of Catholicism without going into all the nasty molestation rumors.

The coloring and inks are SO crisp, it really looks like promotional art. I am SO envious of this. @___@! I love this and it was very worth the cash! :D

Thank you!

I love it! Speaking of Christianity and Buddhism, there's a story in which young Jesus walked from Israel to China, and received spiritual teaching from Buddha. There's also a legend that Jesus spent seven years in India and Tibet, and that story may have developed from this.

Man, "The Father, The Son, and the Holy Guest Star" has to be my favourite episode after "Trash of the Titans"; for obvious reasons of course :D

Also, excellent work, a bit more shading and you could pull off a proper promotional piece.

I agree with previous comments of how great this looks! U really capture them well, and the rubble in the background is a great addition.
