One of my Christmas gifts this year was "The '90s: The Inside Stories from the Decade That Rocked", a book collection of Rolling Stone interviews with the biggest and most influential music artists of the decade. The articles are all deeply insightful and intriguing, but the photography is equally awesome. One clustered black-and-white group shot of the Smashing Pumpkins caught my attention, and it inspired me to make an album cover for Westworld. These kids are just a couple of amateurs playing out of a garage - seems like a no-frills group photo would be just the sort of thing they'd put on the front of their CD. It's not like they can hire a graphic designer or something.
