SD13 - Off The Deep End

This is a series concept I had that didn’t really go anywhere. Thumbing through the later volumes of my massive collection of Disney Adventures magazines, I thought of doing a parody of Disney Channel sitcoms. It wound up underwater, as my art projects tend to do – Jamie Sheridan and her younger brother Spencer are the children of renowned underwater photographer Danielle Sheridan, whose work hangs in art galleries around the country. She has her kids model for her a lot, so the whole family is quite famous in the art world (as is par for the course with Disney Channel sitcoms, this is a show about kids who are rich, famous, and obscenely privileged). Between Jamie and her best friend Anjelica, and Spencer and his partner-in-crime Kyle, they get into all manner of wacky laugh-track-inducing hijinks.

This one didn’t really take off for a couple of reasons. One, it was hard for me to write stories that were intentionally stupid – I kept wanting to make them better, but they ended up veering into territory that was too clever for a spoof of junk like “Hannah Montana”. And two, this was right after I started developing Adorkable, and I figured one series about an underwater photographer was enough for now.
