This month's Nineteen-Ninety-Something story is so big, it spilled over into the Sunday strips! The Maxwells are on their summer vacation, but they had the misfortune of picking the same destination that the Duquesnes did - Universal Studios Florida, which was newly opened in the summer of 1990.
This story was a lot of fun for me to write, because I went to Universal twice when I was a kid in the '90s, and I just returned there this past March for the first time in 20 years. Nearly every single thing I remember from my childhood visits is long gone - Nickelodeon Studios is now a Blue Man Group show, the Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera turned into Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem, Back to the Future: The Ride was infamously replaced with The Simpsons Ride, etc. Amazingly, the only opening day attraction that's still there is the E.T. Adventure, and boy howdy, is it obvious that thing was built in 1990. It's like hang-gliding through a Chuck E. Cheese's.
But despite all my nostalgic memories getting wiped off the map, I still had fun. 'Cause after all, they've got the Wizarding World of Harry Potter now, which I could easily have spent the whole day in if I'd had the chance

At least there's some good that can come from replacements or expansions like The Simpsons Ride, Men in Black Alien Attack, Harry Potter, Transformers, Islands of Adventure and Race Through New York with Jimmy Fallon!
