In my efforts to deepen the characters more, I hit upon a new facet of Katy's personality - she relies on her parents to do most of the menial tasks in her life, like food preparation, so when she's forced to fend for herself, she thinks "Oh, I've seen this done before, how hard can it be?" ...and proceeds to fail miserably.

As I've mentioned in previous strips, there was a massive environmental awareness movement going on in 1990, and a big part of that was dolphin-safe tuna. Dolphins were getting caught in tuna fishing nets and dying, so Star-Kist and a bunch of other brands made a big deal on their labels about how no dolphins were killed in the making of their canned meat. Because everyone loves dolphins. Tuna, though, fuck those guys.
