While I continue to work on my BarbozaToons comic, I thought I'd regale you all with some of the multitudinous minutiae about my other comic projects.
Off and on for years, I've been working on a project that endeavors to adapt the "Pokémon" anime into the format of a newspaper comic strip. It's primarily been fueled by my loathing of the actual "Pokémon" newspaper strip that ran from September 2000 to March 2001 and was clearly written by people who knew nothing about the franchise. My version retold the anime's stories, while maintaining the personalities of the characters and featuring much more lush artwork. I may post some samples in the future, but until then, here's something I drew last night - the cover illustration for the strip's first treasury, which'd feature color reprints of the first two book collections.
Non-sequitur? Not quite. Note the highlights on the characters and the backgrounds, which is an aspect of coloring that I've recently ventured into. The flat colors I've been doing were starting to bug me, since I couldn't get a lot of subtle shading fluctuations. Until I get Photoshop (which may happen sooner than I think), this is the next best thing.
Looks really good. The only thing that's bothering me is Misty's hair. From the way she's running I would think that her hair would be flowing behind her, especially for how fast she would be running from those murderous Pokemon.
Yeah, that's a good point (although I don't recall if her side-mounted ponytail ever moved much when she ran...but then again, one of the goals of my "Pokémon" comic strips was to make the artwork a bit more lively than that of the anime). It'd look sort of awkward from this angle, though - maybe I should have had her and Brock switch places.

Man, that looks very intresting. You've definately give the Pokemon Characters a certain "edge" that makes them seem less static than the series itself. Also, you drew the Giant Pokemon exactly identical to those from the show. And this is someone who hasn't watched the show for about 5 years!
Love to see a few more development pieces, JB. This is truning out to be pretty great. BTW, seeing as you'll be rewriting the Pokemon History, here's a tip you might want to takw: Try including a few more foes for our heroes to face other than Team Rocket. They're good an' all, but...in the TV Series, it got kind of monotonous, y'know?
Yeah, I made an effort to shake things up a bit in places where they desperately needed shaking. In addition to cutting back on the Ash-Team Rocket conflicts, I usually give Jessie, James, and Meowth their own separate stories - in fact, throughout my version of the Hoenn region, they never even come in contact with Ash and crew, as they're busy scouring the region for a suitable location for the next Team Rocket recruitment base.

I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
