Happy Turkey Day by jbwarner86 Happy Turkey Day by jbwarner86
November 24 is a significant day for MSTies - on that fateful night in 1988, "Mystery Science Theater 3000" made its TV debut on KTMA TV-23 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It also happened to be Thanksgiving that year, so Midwestern movie buffs sitting down to channel-surf after a big tryptophan-filled evening were treated to the beginning of something very special! (And thanks to Comedy Central's annual Turkey Day marathons from 1991 to 1995, MST3K and Thanksgiving have been forever intertwined ever since.)

Today marks MST3K's 20th birthday, and I figured a nice way to celebrate would be to show Joel and the bots gathered around the communications table for a bit of holiday-themed family togetherness. After all, when you're trapped in outer space, family is one of the most important things there is!

If I'm correct the episode was "Revenge of the Mysterons from Mars", a compilation film of one of my favorite tv series; "Captain Scarlet & the Mysterons". Shame they won't put it out

Awesome tribute to one of the greatest TV shows in history! Just finished Cave Dwellers and Eegah. It's been 11 years since I saw my first episode; the full-length film for 'This Island Earth'. Ever since then, MST3K has been my #1 favorite show! Keep it up!

That...was a fine, well-anticipated "holiday" tradition: the MST3K Turkey Day Marathon. How I miss those good ol' days.....*nostalgic sigh*

Then Comedy Central ruined it by not showing MiSTie anymore. (I don't get Sci-Fi Channel, nor do I WANT to)
Nice tribute to the Joel and the Bots. Skol! :ahoy:

It's that time again isn't it? I got Thanksgiving of so I'm gonna celebrate it like Joel and the bots here: eat turkey and watch the absolute WORST turkies they ever were forced to sit through.

Let's see: These ten are their all time personal worst.

1. Manos: The Hands of Fate
2. The Creeping Terror
3. Monster A Go-Go
4. The Wild world of Batwoman
5. Skydivers
6. Red Zone cuba
7. The Incredibely Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed Up Zombies
8. Robot Monster
9. Eegah!
10. Fire Maidens From Outer Space

These to me are my personal worstm ovies they ever saw list. And I'm gonna watch em all on Thanksgiving to feel Joel and the bots' pain. XD

I don't think Jimmy Clem was an actor, I think he was just some guy they found on the river and just put him in the movie.

If you ask me, Monster A Go-Go was the worst, followed by Manos in a tight second.

It's down to the big three I find: 'Monster A Go-Go'; 'Manos the Hands of Fate' and 'The Creeping Terror'.
Yer right on the money actually.

Oh yeah, all three of those sucked big-time. I don't know how any one sane enough could sit through ANY of those without the assistance of Joel/Mike & the Bots! And I have this to say about the creators: WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!!?

On the plus side, they all made for some hilarious MST3K episodes.

:iconshinragod:

What were they thinking indeed! As was summed up in 'Attack of the THE Eye Creatures'; "THEY JUST DIDN'T CARE!!"

Yeah they were pretty funny. But even with the commentary they were sometimes a pain to watch.

Yeah, especially if you were one of the guys writing riffs for it!

There are movies they watched they simply couldn't stand and had a hard time writing for.

Manos is no doubt one of those movies...

Yeah, and it they both depressed the robots to the point of tears! That shows the pain that they experienced while trying to write riffs for those movies!

That, & Monster A Go-Go as well! At least Manos had a plot, weak & inane as it was.

I've already gotten the 20th Anniversary DVD set (well, getting it for Xmas, techincally). It's just amazing that the series has been so popular for so long, though I'm not surprised. It's just that good. :)

Anyway, nice work on the picture, as always. Keep up the good work.
