F16 - Singled Out by jbwarner86 F16 - Singled Out by jbwarner86
In the time between me writing and publishing this strip, Jenny McCarthy proved to the world that she actually isn't feeling pretty damn stupid (despite the fact that she is) by writing this piece of trash for the Huffington Post [link] . It's basically the journalistic equivalent of clamping your hands over your ears and going "I can't hear you! La la la la la..."

Well said. Speaking as someone with Asperger's Syndrome (diagnosed by a doctor, I might add), I find the notion of vaccines causing Autism to be... moronic.

Besides, if you were a parent, would you risk a chance that your child would become more susceptible to disease just because you're afraid they might become "mentally handicapped"?

same here, I also was diagnosed by a doctor and hate how Oprah essentially shills her too and gave her a show too.

Nice, about time someone wrote something about Jenny McCarthy and autism. Idiot thinks that autism can be cured like a cold. Someone needs to tell her that we are not a disease and she should accept her son for who he is, not what she wants him to be instead.

Awesome comic, as always.

I actually always found her insulting. She finds these autistic children to be damaged so to speak because of a shot, when really it was the way they were born. :/ Not to mention, she's pretty much in a protest that's partially responsible for several sick children.

If she's believes in that, then why in hell is she an autism activist? I'm autistic and I know it's something you're born with.

There was a nice opinion piece in the paper today that said "Even if vaccines did do that, I think I would get my kids vaccinated anyway. The choice would be between mildly disabling your kid, and KILLING your kid."

She's still pushing this? My word.

Admitting you're wrong is a hard thing, especially for a celebrity. I wish they'd swallow their pride for once, as they look like idiots either way.

Y'know, I love Jim Carrey, but I gotta admit that he really should get a clue about all of this 'autism caused by vaccines' nonsense. Hopefully, he took the news better than Jenny; if not, it's a real shame, but I'm still a fan.

She actually believes that autism is caused by these shots? REALLY? It's not just something you pick up. Autism is something you are BORN with. Something *I* was born with, (Although my case is a mild one.)

She - and plenty of others - was swayed by a British study linking immunization with Autism. A study which was completely discredited even before it was proven the doctor who published it made up half the "facts" the study was based on. (Look up "Andrew Wakefield" for more info).

Thanks for this. My mom is one of those people who believes what she reads/sees and this is one of those things that she believes because she's heard about it enough. The sad thing is she's a special ed. teacher in the summer and I can't help but think, Really mom?

Anyway, this is awesome and I hate Jenny McCarthy.

Amen, a thousands times amen. Gotta love people who can take being greatly and publicly wrong gracefully. Jenny's crusade seems more like the last gasp of an attention addict whose time in the limelight is about to run out than somebody seriously concerned for fellow human beings.

Autism starts at birth; you can't catch it from anything. I've heard of genetic conditions where certain people can't digest certain foods and it can lead to retardation, but that was something predetermined by their DNA. From what I read, she's saying that her son became autistic after he got a measles vaccine shot, and that's not possible.

If the vaccine DID make her child any less intellectually developed, he doesn't have autism.
