When I found out about this Miley Cyrus salvia thing, my mind immediately began buzzing with comic strip ideas. This is the sort of thing I couldn't resist - satirizing the downfall of the Disney Channel is a favorite pastime of mine, as many folks probably know.

Ignoring the fact that I deeply dislike Miley Cyrus and all that she represented. It shames me to see that lots of parents act this same way. Like if artists lifes had anything to do with their job. Who said that being very good at singing, dancing or other any kind of performance comes with the responsibility of being a role model for the youth?

If that was true, new generations wouldn't listen to Bob Marley, Jimmy Jendrix, Sinnatra, Good old rock and Roll, and basically most of musical, literary and visual culture. The people who built it were very human and had lifes full of excess.

Well, if someone is awesome in any given field (i.e. performance), then people would worship that person. That worship will lead the awesome person into the status of role model. So, many "nobodies" try and imitate such role model in many ways if not every way possible.

Basically, that is what I'm afraid of.

It's not the performances. It is the overexposure. Too much tween stuff and a lack of variety. Nevermind that said role models end up fucking up whilst still employed (in this case, with Disney), making things all the worse when people realize little kids pick up things and want to emulate their heroes, even if their heroes suck at life in general.

Well we do know one thing, if Katy's mom ever tried to search her room for Salvia, she probably wouldn't find it...
