F16 - Patriot Games by jbwarner86 F16 - Patriot Games by jbwarner86
I can't help but draw influence from professional comic strip artists when I write Forever 16. And while the 1990s strips are heavily influenced by Bill Amend's "FoxTrot", the 2000s strips are more like Aaron McGruder's "The Boondocks". Case in point - this politically satirical story from November 2001. In the paranoid atmosphere of post-9/11 America, Michelle's got to be a lot more careful with what she Googles.

The sad thing is, I could actually see this happen, not do long ago.

I'd like to think we're past that, but from what I've been hearing, there's still a long way to go before the damages done in the first decade on the 21st Century can be repaired.

Oh. They got Jocelyn. What does the arrest site look like? You can't tell me that a girl like that doesn't know how to hurt people while tied up. Jos and the metal detector should have gotten it's own strip.
They probably arrested Michelle as much for her bun hat as her political views.

Seriously, saying 'military intelligence' sometimes is an oxymoron.

And no wonder Jocelyn is such a rebel; her parents are both idiots.

She still has that problem today (NDAA, more warrantless wiretapping) - face it, we're as screwed as Obama as we were under Bush.

I disagree, "Screwed during repairs" is still screwed, but is less screwed then "Intentionally screwed plus more screwed going on elsewhere". You just have to accept a baseline of screwed and try to keep your grasp on "Slightly less screwed untill Monday." All in all, Obama can't do much about "Screwed by holdovers of the guys who broke stuff in the first place" which no-one gives him credit for not being.

No offense, but I think you're giving Obama a free pass. The man has proven himself to be a liar and a hypocrite. He doesn't care about the rights of others, just expanding the power of his base and satisfying his campaign contributors. Kill list, drone strikes, indefinite detention, civil liberties violations, expanded military campaigns. Sorry man, he isn't repairing things; he's making them worse.

Not sure if the post-9/11 era is officially over (probably not, since the war in Afghanistan is still going for a while), but thankfully, we're past the worst of it.

god is this an old kinda joke. still funny in a way.

personally i think the government is in fact autistic. they are cpaable of functioning, considering the usa has not fallen to pieces by now, but they have a hard time doing anything without help. and considering i am a high functioning autistic, i can relate to that. i can put on my pants in the morning and use the bathroom, but there are things i have a hard time that can inhibit my function one way or another.
though even i would not arrest a couple of teenagers.

So true! I have a Bangladeshi friend who happens to be named Mohammed. He looks Indian, but is the most Americanized fellow I know. He get stopped for pat downs every time he goes to the airport. This racial profiling thing is getting our of hand.

I don't think it quite works, though. The profiling is Middle Eastern.

......eh, it's my fault, Jesse told me about this sequence months ago and I never caught the logic gap until now.

As :iconmatt-the-hydra: mentioned, that's the point. The FBI agents are so xenophobic that they'll target anybody who looks even remotely foreign. Michelle's got slightly darker skin and that's all they need.

LOL, John Jackson, and Jack Johnson. It'd be cool if they appear again if you want to do another government related story.

And isn't Michelle from Singapore? They don't look Arab at all!

That's the idea JB was putting across. She looks foreign, and that's enough reason for them to pluck her off the streets alongside the google spying. That sort of thing happens, apparently. :(

There was also an episode of Titus that featured it. Only it's made even more ridiculous there since the protagonists are all white. Also, Titus has an emotional breakdown as well.

This really illustrates that throughout history and today, people are still being falsely accused even by thier own country they stand for. Man, between commies, axis supporters and witches and now terrorists? How low can we sink in our fear?
