F16 - Blair Necessities II by jbwarner86 F16 - Blair Necessities II by jbwarner86
And here's the deliberately anticlimactic conclusion to the two-part Forever 16 Blair Witch Project spoof. I would have had this up sooner, but I had to put it through an emergency last-minute rewrite. Originally, the ending was more legitimately scary, suggesting that there actually was some supernatural force at work, and the final panel was ambiguous and left the kids' fates uncertain...in other words, it ended just like the dumb-ass movie I was supposed to be parodying. Thankfully, I came to my senses, though I had to throw out and redraw the entire 10/30/99 strip as a result of it. Never let it be said that I don't care about my stories.

This, of course, means I will now also have to rewrite next week's story, which I also tried to make sincerely suspenseful. (Fortunately, I haven't drawn that one yet.) I don't think horror is a good genre for me to attempt in the first place - it's much easier for me to just make fun of it.

A'right! Was so worth the redraft for the memorable last few comics here. The last strip definitely felt more "you" and F16 than what you must have originally had outlined 8-)

Great anticlimax (and I don't say that a lot)- also, nice to know that Jocelyn's kind enough not to mess with one's comics =D

I was sorta anticipating the ambiguous ending for a moment.

I do like the newer ending.

Hahahaha, I loved Steve's taking a moment to question whether a ghost axe could still hurt them...

Who brings their collectibles on (potentially) dangerous treks?

They weren't planning on it being dangerous - they were just going to spend one night camping and that'd be it. They didn't really expect to find anything, they were just shooting a Blair Witch parody for the fun of it, like Joel said in the first strip.

Do what you do best, but it doesn't hurt to experiment.

Hey, I notice you censor the swear words now. I don't mind really, but I'm curious to know why you started doing it.

That's kind of a long story - I recently came up with another facet to Forever 16's long and fabricated history. I already established that I made it look like it premiered on the comics page on Monday, January 1, 1990. Well, it stays there for 16 years (appropriate, given the title), and then on Monday, January 1, 2007, I unofficially "retire" as a newspaper cartoonist - the strip switches from a syndicated newspaper strip to a self-published webcomic. And once I'm no longer bound by the editorial mandates of a national syndicate, I don't have to bleep the foul language anymore. Every strip from 2007 and later is totally uncensored.

Either I'm very dedicated to the verisimilitude of my work, or I have way too much free time on my hands.

That's crazy.
But that's okay, because your comics are awesome.
