Downtime

I held off on “Adorkable” for a while because I was trying to think up ideas for the characters. Here’s the result of a brainstorm I had this week.

Regina gets a crush on an upperclassman, a Film and Video major who recruits the two girls to help him with his current project. He has to film a scripted scene that his teacher provides him with, a scene of just two people hanging out and talking, but the challenge is to present it in a way that makes the scene visually unique and interesting – and the objective is to be as creative as possible. When Abby mentions her interest in underwater modeling, it inspires him to shoot the scene underwater, with Regina and Abby as his actors.

I’ve seen several art films that were done this way. The director is usually making a comment about how people stay focused on the little distracting things in their daily lives, trying to ignore the bigger things that demand attention. Or some kind of artsy “statement” like that.
