I do love these commissions that allow me to get creative with the subject matter!

:iconhadoolket: is clearly a fan of the 1987 version of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" animated series, as he asked to see my take on April O'Neil and Irma Langinstein. Now, he didn't specify what it was they should be doing, he only asked that I not incorporate them into any kind of bizarre sexual fetish (it's nice to have a commissioner who expressly tells me not to do this - usually, it's just the opposite). But he did say - and this is an exact quote, mind you - "however, I admit I'm okay with your water thing". Perfect!

Now, April and Irma have been among the most oft-requested characters for the Underwater Babes of Toontown, but I held off on drawing them for a while because I've never watched "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". However, this was a good opportunity to study the two characters, and when I found out that they're both under the employ of Channel 6 News, I thought of the news report I found on YouTube that covered the work of one of my favorite underwater photographers, Rusty Pietrzak (see for yourself: [link] ). From there, the scenario practically drew itself.

The Ninja Turtles comics (from Mirage, Image and Archie) were a lot better than the old cartoon. The newer cartoon by 4Kids based alot of its stories and arcs directly off the Mirage stuff, though the comics are probably still superior.

With the Michael Bay-produced (but thankfully not directed, it seems) Turtles film set for release in 2012, the most I'm hoping for are some nice trade paperback collections of all the older comics.

It's these kind of shows that ought to he made/shown again, no matter how corny others think of them. Love seeing these two again. :)

And I'm really liking how creative you're getting with your water pics, espicially with actual events to base from. 8-)

YES~!

80s April rocks ... always!

Irma is equally awesome because she was voiced by Jennifer Darling...Oh? Yeah I follow voice actors quite a bit.

Now, he didn't specify what it was they should be doing, he only asked that I not incorporate them into any kind of bizarre sexual fetish (it's nice to have a commissioner who expressly tells me not to do this - usually, it's just the opposite).

His sentiments sound like I should be ashamed of who I am or what I have others do for me. Truthfully, I don't care really because taste is subjective.

Meh, I've been bizarro from birth and it doesn't bother me much.

To each their own I say. I like peanut butter, he prefers jam. He likes rye bread, I prefer toasted french rolls. Preferences, that's all it boils down to.

(Sarcasm much?)

Look, I didn't mean any disrespect. I know you mean well expressing what you like and I shouldn't have taken offense by an idle comment like it was a personal attack.

I was just defending my posiition, or tastes from where they stand.

We're both adults, let's just shake hands and bury the hatchet.

Oh COOL! That show was a piece of crap in my book, but the girls I liked a lot (strangely, I would lean on Irma's side for some reason... :3)

Guess this pic will make a long-overdue appearance of your artwork at AF?

(you must have been one *happy* fellow doing this particular commission! ;3)
