A Deviation About Nothing by jbwarner86 A Deviation About Nothing by jbwarner86
I've been watching a lot of "Seinfeld" lately, and I decided I'd draw a tribute to it. So here's Jerry Seinfeld, Elaine Benes, Cosmo Kramer, and George Costanza in all their cynical glory.

"Seinfeld" is probably my favorite live action sitcom of all time. My sister and I clash on this frequently, since she insists that "Friends" is the better show. The way I see it, you're either a "Seinfeld" person or a "Friends" person. "Friends" people prefer broader, simpler humor that doesn't need a whole lot of setup; "Seinfeld" fans prefer more sophisticated humor that takes a more satirical approach. I've always fallen into the latter category, which is why "Seinfeld" has always been right up my alley.

Seinfeld is an awesome show. It's my favorite live action show as well. My favorite episode has to be "The Dinner Party".

"You see, the keey to eatting the black-and-white cookie is you want to get alittle black and white with each bite. Cause noothing goes better together than vanilla and chocolate. And yet, racial harmony still elluds us. If people could only look to the cookie, all our problems would be solved."-Jerry

The show was good at its time. After the finale, the stars sorta lost themselves, didn't they?

Well, let's see - Jerry did Bee Movie, Jason did Shallow Hal, Julia's on "The New Adventures of Old Christine", and Michael basically committed career suicide. So yeah, I'd say their glory days are behind them.

Their supporting actors, however (Wayne Knight, Jerry Stiller, Patrick Warburton, John O'Hurley, Bryan Cranston, etc.) seem to be doing just fine!

I personally have never been able to understand how anyone could possibly like Friends better than Seinfeld

I watch the show and I don't even think the jokes are funny

I guess I just don't "get" Friends but I always thought it was a vastly inferior show

yeah I'm a Seinfeld person

This is awesome. It's good to see you've captured the likeness but still kept your brand of style to it, which you seem to do very often.
I agree about the final episode. I'm sure if Larry David had've stayed on for a bit longer it wouldve ended completely differently. I mean, when he left at the end of one of the series's's's he killed off Susan, how unconventional is that? and in such a completely random way as well.
It didn't need a final ending like that, even if it was just another day in his life, as you say, it would've been better. The only thing worse would've been a rekindling of Jerry and Elaine's love ala Friends's Rachael and Bignose Ross.

Well, Larry David did write the final episode, and I think that was the mistake. The reason Larry left "Seinfeld" is because he hated working on it, and he hated its popularity even more (at bottom, all he wanted to do was a 90-minute special about where Jerry gets his material, and it exploded into the most popular sitcom of all time). In writing the finale, it felt like he took the opportunity to get revenge on the characters for altering his life so much. I get the sense that Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer ended up in jail not because it was humorously ironic, but because Larry David never wanted to see them again.

Jerry and George here are sorta off, but to be expected as their cartoony, haha. If you put the Elane and Kramer images infront of me, I will instantly say "Elane and Kramer! cool!"

The george one is borderline recogniseable. Still, this is great!

"Helllllooooo, La la la"

"I'm flippin', I'm floppin'!"

"George is gettin' UPSET!!"

"The face, what about the face?!"

Link the quotes :P

#1 - Jerry, 902 "The Voice"
#2 - Kramer, 604 "The Chinese Woman"
#3 - George, 617 "The Jimmy" (and many subsequent episodes)
#4 - Elaine, 512 "The Stall"

Thank you, thank you...

I think it was sad that it ended on such a sour note. Except for maybe 213 "The Deal", I don't think there's an episode of "Seinfeld" that I hate as much as 923/924 "The Finale".

Maybe if they'd forgotten about it and 921/922 "The Clip Show" and made 920 "The Puerto Rican Day" the series finale, it would have been better - the show didn't really need a conclusion in my eyes, especially not the one it got, but it would have worked just fine if the final episode had been just another entry in the daily lives of Jerry and friends. The show was about "nothing", after all - what would be the point of a big flashy finale that puts a definitive capper on everything?

I dunno, maybe it's just me.

:iconomegapsi:
omegaPSI Featured By Owner Aug 31, 2007
Yeah, I agree that the final was overly flashy as the series never involved the law as much. The finale was the only episode that I know of that really involved the law and long term consicuenses. I think a much better ending would have involved breaking the fourth wall in some way, like the clip shows usually did. Yet I too feel the show did not need an end, since no matter what happens, Jerry and friends somehow keep going.

No show has ever made me laugh as much as Seinfeld did, maybe the Simpsons, but thats a whole different comedy. THe finale was distinctly unfunny, and sort of a slap in the face. I still hold hopes of Jerry and friends returning someday, though. Call me crazy, haha.
